State-of-the-Art Technology and Equipment
Modern advancements have allowed the field of dentistry to constantly evolve to better suit the needs of both dentists and patients. With modern technology in dentistry, dental treatments and procedures are more efficient, comfortable, and pain-free than ever!
Here at For You Dental, Dr. Ashlea Drakeford only offers and gives the best kind of service to our patients. That’s why we use only the latest and most effective forms of technology available in dentistry. Our modern and advanced instruments used in dentistry helps us provide better and more efficient oral care and treatments.
Some of the state-of-the-art technology used by Dr. Ashlea Drakeford here in For You Dental includes digital X-rays, microscopic cameras and digital imaging.
Digital X-ray or digital radiography is a diagnostic tool used to determine the parts of your mouth that are not visible during a regular dental exam. They are also used to detect diseases or find out the extent and size of damage that cannot be seen beneath the gum.
Digital X-ray has the same use and purpose as traditional dental X-ray but with lesser exposure to radiation and greater comfort. Digital X-rays are also faster and more efficient than the traditional ones. Through a sensor that processes the image to a computer screen, the teeth, gums, cavities, jawbone and other dental images are captured. These dental images can then be printed or stored in the computer for future comparison or reference.
There are two kinds of digital X-rays, intraoral and extraoral. In intraoral X-ray, the film is placed inside the mouth in order to provide more detailed dental images or results. In extraoral X-ray, the film is placed outside the mouth and the main focus is the jaw and skull instead of identifying cavities and other problems of each teeth.
When is a digital X-ray necessary?
Dr. Ashlea Drakeford at For You Dental will most likely take a digital X-ray of your teeth for any of the following purposes:
- To find cavities;
- To determine if gum disease or dental infection is present;
- To check the extent of damage caused by cavities on the teeth;
- To check the status of developing teeth;
- To look for impacted teeth;
- To monitor the growth and development of the jaws;
- To check the health of a tooth’s root;
- To check for tumors, cysts and other growth in the mouth;
- To find extra teeth; and/or
- To check for any fracture in the jaws.
Microscopic or intra-oral cameras are both diagnostic and treatment-assisting tools. Microscopic cameras help provide Dr. Drakeford a closer and clearer picture inside your mouth. They offer high-definition imaging especially during operative treatment and dental surgery. They also provide dentists with the ability to accurately see the dental nerves of the tooth, micro-cracks in the tooth, as well as the underlying tooth structure.
What are the benefits of microscopic cameras?
With this technology, Dr. Drakeford will be able to take a closer look at microscopic parts and areas of your mouth that are otherwise not visible to the eye. She will have a clear vision of every part of your mouth up to your third molars and even inside cavities and holes in the teeth. With this clear vision, Dr. Drakeford will be able to more efficiently determine the extent of your oral problem as well as administer dental treatments more effectively. She would also be able to properly document the procedure given through the use of microscopic cameras.
Digital imaging is another technology used by For You Dental to measure both cosmetic and health outcomes of treatments among patients. The dental digital imaging software allows patients to get an idea of what their teeth would look like right after receiving dental treatments like teeth whitening, dental veneers and other cosmetic dentistry procedures.
What are the benefits of dental imaging?
Dental imaging has the following advantages over film and other forms of imaging:
- The images are instantly ready;
- The images can be stored, shared or retrieved electronically;
- No films and chemicals are used to develop the images;
- Patients and insurance companies are provided with perfect digital copies of X-rays for documentation purposes.
